Vaginal cancer is becoming more prevalent in the world. But the real cause has not yet been discovered. But some risk factors can be seen that this cancer could be avoided. Vaginal cancer can start in the vagina itself (primary vaginal cancer) or spread into the vagina from another part of the body (secondary vaginal cancer). • Age

Usually the majority women have a vaginal cancer is a women who are 70 years old or older while the percentage for the women who have a cancer is only 15%.

• Diethylstilbestrol (DES)

DES is a hormonal drug that was given to some women to prevent miscarriage between 1940 and 1971. The women who took the DES (when pregnant with them) is higher possibility to get it rather than the mother who pregnant normal because DES develop clear-cell adenocarcinoma.

• Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)

HPV is a group of more than 100 related viruses. Different type of HPV can cause different type of warts in different parts of body. HPV that linked to vagina include HPV 16, HPV 18 and HPV 31. This is the high-risk types of HPV which the infection may produce no visible signs until pre-cancerous changes or cancer develop. HPV can be passed from one person to another during skin to skin contact. Through sex it will spread including vaginal, anal intercourse and even oral sex.

• Cervical Cancer

The women having a cervical cancer increase a risk of vaginal squamous cell cancer. This is because vaginal and cervical have similar risk factor such as HPV infection and smoking.

• Smoking

• Alcohol

Drinking alcoholic might affect the risk of vaginal cancer. More cases show that the women with vaginal cancer are alcoholic women.

• Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)

• Melanoma

Normally, the people with these types of vaginal cancer will change the color of skin. It is because melanomas are developing from pigment-producing cells. • Squamous cell carcinoma
